Dr. Ralph Chu

Dr. Y. Ralph Chu is a board-certified ophthalmologist and internationally recognized leader in cataract and refractive surgery. He is the founder and medical director of Chu Vision Institute and Chu Surgery Center in Minneapolis, where he has performed over 150,000 procedures.
Dr. Chu is a fellowship-trained corneal specialist whose practice focuses on cataract, refractive, cornea, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. He has participated in more than 90 FDA-monitored clinical trials and has designed surgical instruments currently in use. He was the first provider in Minnesota to offer SMILE vision correction, laser-assisted cataract surgery with the VICTUS Femtosecond Laser, and corneal inlays for improved reading vision.
He has been featured on The Today Show, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Twin Cities Live, and KARE 11, sharing insights on the latest advancements in ophthalmology.

Education

Dr. Chu earned his medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his internship at Evanston Hospital, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at Duke University Eye Center. He furthered his training with a one-year fellowship specializing in cornea and external disease, refractive, glaucoma, cataract, and lens implant surgery in Minneapolis.
